Sometimes I think Americans (sweeping generalisation, I know) fail to recognise they are a part of a global economy. This global economy is something that US policy, corporations, and people have supported; often it would seem due to a firm belief in the exceptional nature of the State of the United States of America. While US (corporate) interests were well served there was narrie a murmur of the impact of US imperial policy and corporatist culture on the rest (95% of the global population) of the world. Now it would seem is a rising protectionist sentiment within the US. Here’s some news; each nation state, ostensibly, seeks the advantage of it’s represented population. Where the common good of the global community is harmed in the pursuit of national interests, in the long run, we all loose. Matters relating to wealth distribution, corporate regulation, employment, jobs, job distribution, workers rights, and particular issues of economic policy are of international concern, Amocentrism doesn’t help.
